OFFICE VISITS

At Dunbar Orthodontics we work every day to make our patients lives just a little bit better. We know that making the choice to pursue corrective orthodontic care is a big decision. We will do our part to make sure that you have as much information and support as possible before you make this decision, and we will happily walk you through every step of the process. Our state-of-the-art technology affords us the opportunity to offer the best safe and gentle treatment options available.

HEALTHY BITES START WITH AN INITIAL CONSULTATION!

At your complimentary first visit, you will meet with Dr. Dunbar and our treatment coordinator. After reviewing your medical and dental history, Dr. Dunbar will perform a clinical examination to determine whether or not orthodontic treatment is needed, and if so, determine the best time to start treatment. Dr. Dunbar will review the possible treatment options with you, including the types of braces or appliances that may be used and in many cases will provide a computer simulation of a case similar to yours to help you visualize your treatment. We will review the estimated length of treatment and the estimated expenses involved including insurance benefits, if applicable, and answer any questions you may have.

If a patient is not yet ready for orthodontic treatment, she or he will be placed on a recall status and will be monitored for the optimum time to begin treatment.
If orthodontic treatment is needed, obtaining diagnostic records is the next step towards achieving your new smile.

DIAGNOSTIC RECORDS

Diagnostic records include Digital Radiograph of the head, teeth and jaws, photographs of the face and teeth and study models. The Digital Radiographs, photographs and study models are taken in our office. We use Digital Radiographic units which produce less radiation than non-digital radiographic units. Study models are taken by digitally scanning the teeth to produce virtual study models which lessens the need for alginate type impressions.

Once all the diagnostic records are completed, Dr. Dunbar will review the records and formulate the best treatment plan for your case, which will be presented at your final consultation.

FINAL CONSULTATION

At the final consultation, we will review the results of your diagnostic records and the recommended treatment plan for your case. Sometimes, more than one treatment approach is possible and if so, we will explain the pros and cons of each approach, working towards helping each patient decide the course of action that is best for them.

We will also review the details of treatment, the patient cooperation that may be needed, the exact fees involved and answer any questions you may have.
